External Validation of NarxCare as Useful Clinical Decision Support Tool

NarxCare is a robust analytics tool that provides a set of tools for medical professionals that uses data from Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMPs) and distills it for providers and dispensers so they can make better decisions about when to prescribe controlled substances. NarxCare provides medical professionals with patient risk scores and an interactive visualization of usage patterns to aid in clinical decision making.

While the score was built based on prior research on prescriptions and overdose risk, it had not been externally validated through published research until recently when a comprehensive study published in the journal, Drug and Alcohol Dependence. The study’s lead investigator will be the webinar’s guest speaker: Gerald Cochran, MSW, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Utah and director of research for the Program on Addiction Research, Clinical Care, Knowledge, and Advocacy within the Division of Epidemiology.

Dr. Cochran and the other researchers did not receive any funding or compensation from Bamboo Health for the study.

NarxCare disclaimer: Pharmacists and physicians use NarxCare scores as indicators to further review details in the patient’s prescription history as they attend to patients. NarxCare scores and reports are intended to aid, not replace, medical decision-making.
