Patient Opt Out–Pings

As a patient, you may opt-out of sharing information with the Pings network by completing the Request to Opt-Out Form.

What is Pings?

A Bamboo Health solution, Pings is one of the nation’s leading care coordination platforms that reduces the cost of healthcare by seamlessly connecting providers in order to better coordinate patient care. The platform allows providers to collaborate on shared patients through Pings (real-time notifications when patients receive care) and Stories (important patient context at the point of care). Leveraging real-time data, provider organizations, payers, governments, individuals, and the organizations can achieve the shared goal of improved, more efficient care.

What are the Benefits of sharing my health information with the Pings network?

We are focused on providing a network of engaged organizations that share information, coordinate care, and work together to improve your care. Pings enables the providers who care for you to collaborate on shared patients and provides them with information on your team of providers and your visit history to improve your quality of care. This has been proven to help reduce cost through higher-quality patient care.

How is My Health Information Shared?

Your health information can be shared with healthcare providers (skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, hospitals, primary care providers, accountable care organizations, etc.) and health insurance organizations. Those entities can only access your information if they are covered entities, as defined by HIPAA (or, in certain circumstances, business associates providing services to covered entities) and solely if they have an active treatment or payment relationship with you. For your information to be shared, the entity must enter into an agreement with Bamboo Health and Pings, including a business associate agreement, which restricts their use of the information to treatment, payment, or healthcare operations purposes, as each is defined by HIPAA.

How is My Health Information Protected?

We operate entirely within the privacy and security requirements set forth within HIPAA, including the encryption of all data in transit and at rest. Bamboo Health’s Pings is subjected to annual third-party audits of its security practices and architecture. We observe all local statutes with regards to handling sensitive data categories where required.

How Can I Opt-Out?

While sharing your data with the Ping network is encouraged, if you prefer, you can choose not to share your data. This is called opting-out.

Though we try to process all requests quickly, this process can take 5-7 business days to take effect.

What happens when I opt out?

  • When you opt out, we will no longer share your health information with the Pings network.
  • Opting out will not prevent your hospital or healthcare provider from sharing your health information, including health records with other treating providers or entities via means other than the Pings platform.
  • Opting out will not prevent those in the Pings network from seeing data that was already shared with them prior to the effective opt-out form date.
  • Opting out will not prevent the Pings network from storing your health information or from using your data in de-identified and/or data aggregation analysis.

What if I Want to Opt Back In?

If you would like to opt back in to sharing your data with the Pings network, your healthcare providers and other covered entities will once again be able to access your health information, including information that was previously blocked by your opt-out status. You can choose to opt-out again at any time.
